Mrs. Goodwin

Hello!

My name is Raelynn Goodwin, and I am so excited to be your school counselor at Adams Elementary! While I have worked in education and with children for over ten years, this will be my first year serving as a school counselor. I am eager to utilize my background in early childhood education, psychology, and counseling to best support the students and families here at Adams.

As we get to know one another, I'd love to share a bit about myself with you. I was actually born in Colorado and spent most of my life in my small hometown of Lyons, CO, but in 2016 I moved to Colorado Springs to continue my education at UCCS. While my graduate studies, work, and family life keep me plenty busy, I also enjoy spending time outdoors and often spend my free time gardening or hiking and camping with my husband, our two daughters, and our two big dogs. I also like to watch movies and football, and I am always up for cooking and eating delicious food with friends and family.

I am looking forward to making connections with you all and supporting each student's academic success and social-emotional growth throughout the upcoming year. Please reach out with any questions or concerns, or even just to say hello! I can't wait to meet you and get to know your family.

Sincerely,

Raelynn Goodwin

I BELIEVE THAT:

  • To best meet each student’s developmental needs, we must utilize a comprehensive school counseling program that applies evidence-based practices and current professional findings.

  • School counselors are student advocates, and as such, they are crucial in creating a school culture of inclusion, respect, and equality.

  • Extensive exploration of a student's personal strengths and limitations in a supportive and respectful environment is vital to their growth.

  • When students are empowered to balance and nurture their physical, academic, social, and emotional wellbeing, they are better able to develop the skills necessary for lifelong learning and success.

  • Encouraging self-advocacy and self-awareness among the school’s student body, faculty members, and surrounding community is a unique capability of school counselors.

  • School counselors help to ensure students' overall safety and wellbeing by utilizing many resources, including ASCA ethical codes, decision-making models, and moral standards.

VISION STATEMENT

The school counseling program at Adams Elementary empowers all students to thrive by providing equitable access to resources, support, and a respectful environment. Students will successfully develop skills that are critical to becoming healthy, accountable, and productive citizens who respect themselves and others. Using a comprehensive school counseling program, school counselors meet each student’s unique needs by integrating preventative strategies, responsive services, career and college preparedness, and individual and group counseling methods.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to prepare every student for continued success in crucial areas such as social connectedness, academic diligence, physical wellbeing, and emotional regulation. We strive to inspire collaboration among students, educators, parents, and the surrounding community. We act and speak with intention and integrity, and we consistently work toward making our school a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment for all.
